Focus On Sketches - Cherish

I hope you've been following along and enjoying my new series Focus On Sketches - 3 Ways or More. I'm up with the 3rd and final layout for June's sketch from Creative Scrappers Sketch #295. Don't forget you can play along with the sketch and win a fabulous Jillibean Soup prize.

This week we're looking at changing up the foundational pieces of the layout. If you look at the background you'll see multiple layers of paper cut into squares. I'm sharing how to do a watercolor background and layered digital die cut to take up the same amount of space but give a whole other look to your layout.

I'm also stretching out the tags to take in the space of the journalling. Still two tags but pulled apart to take up more space on the layout. The title remains in the same place.

You Are My (Scrap-Room June Kit)

I've had a blast this month guest designing for the Scrap-Room and hope you've enjoyed seeing what I've created. This is my final layout using the kit but I still have some scraps and you know I'll be using them up! Today I'm working with the Echo Park Pinstripe collection.

I love the challenges over at the Scrap-Room and this layout is done with the formula from the Freaky Fast Friday challenge. It really stretches me and is so fun to see all the different designs that can come out of the same starting place.

Along the top I used one of the long stickers as well as the throw away pieces between two of the. You know me I'm always on the look out how to use every last bit up!

To ground my photos I added a strip from the washi tape and another long sticker. I thought the ruler was perfect since the fish stories always grow and my hubby is in construction so they go hand in hand.

I used a die cut from the ephemera and word stickers from the sticker sheet to create my long title.

The bingo card was cut from one of the patterned papers and then I added some twine through a tag to document my journalling. A few more stickers and it was done. Such a fun fast layout.

Focus On Sketches - 3 ways or more

I've started a new series on my Youtube channel and if you're not already following me there I'd love to have you subscribe and create along with me. I love sketches! they're a great starting point if you need a little nudge and sometimes they're great to just follow exactly when you want to create quickly or lost your mojo. I'm going to be sharing how I change this sketch up to create two more examples. I've already shared my layout following the sketch almost exactly so back up and check it out if you haven't already seen it.

Here's the first sketch I'm working with from Kristine Davidson and Creative Scrappers.

I started by one of the easiest ways to change a sketch and that is starting with the photos. I substituted the two small photos for one 6x4 portrait photo.

I didn't stop there. Instead of two pieces behind the photo I used one sheet of the floral then created the separation shown on the sketch with border strips. Instead of the tags I used my stamps to create a large embellishment to take it's place.

Layout Share

When I finish layouts i have a box that I stack them in until I can get around to putting them into albums. I had a lot piling up so last year I started once a month to film a little overview of the layouts I created and then promptly put them into their appropriate albums. It's been working fairly well and I can say the only stack of layouts I need to deal with are some that are still waiting for journaling. some day I'll get all caught up. LOL

I love the wood veneer frame in the kit and used it to frame a close up of one of the photos I snapped of an alligator while we were in Florida.

The tags in the kit make a perfect journalling spot and embellishment.

I added some buttons and twine from my stash as well as some alphas.

So Happy with Process Video (Scrap-Room)

I'm so excited to be back with my second layout for the ScrapRoom using their Flavors of the Month kit. This time I'm working with Shimelle's star shine collection. I'm a huge Shimelle fan so I decided to try and channel my inner Shimelle and do a layout using things I've learned from her.

I stapled some twine from the EP Pinstripe kit over my large scalloped border.
Added some chipboard embellishments and the flair from my kit to finish it off.

Shimelle gets more from her patterned paper than any other designer I know. One way is to fussy cut images from the patterned paper. I cut the globe from patterned paper and pop dotted it up over some people I wanted to block out of the photo. I added a chipboard arrow over it to point to the focus of what my story is about.

I like to include a hidden Mickey on my Disney layouts and I moved this one around a lot trying to find the perfect spot when I happened to tuck it up under the clip. Perfect!!

Instead of a photo at the bottom I chose some fun stickers from the sticker sheet.

For the title I used stickers and some alphas from my stash then sewed across the top of them.
